Summary
My project was a 200 word essay on whether or not I would have supported the dropping of the Atomic Bomb on Japan. I learned
quite a lot from this project. I learned that it had brought the United states out the of Great Depression because of all
of the jobs it provided for the American people. This was an amazing thing because I did not realize how it brought us out
of the depression at first. Then I did research and I found out all the jobs it created such as the assembly lines to build
tanks and missiles and other war materials needed. It brought the country together because the country was working as a whole
for one purpose. It gave jobs to many Americans so that they could have a source of income and they could now feed their families.
It slowly but yet surely provided money for people all over the country and boosted the economy. Many men had jobs in factories
and assembly lines creating and manufacturing parts to vehicles and weaponry that would be used in the war. This was a faster
and more effective way to create all of the goods while providing for the people of the country.
The dropping of the bomb
also provided research for scientists to conduct, because they were not completely sure about the devastation that the Atomic
Bomb would create if dropped on a country and what effects it would have on the surrounding environment of the country or
the effects on animals and people that it would create. The scientists knew that it would have an everlasting effect and that
it would create a very widespread explosion that would destroy many lives in the process of being dropped. This would help
them test and research the effects it would have so that they could further apply this to other wars with other countries
that they would have in the future.
Japan would also have lost so many lives that they would be on the urge of surrendering and giving up in the war after
the Atomic Bomb was dropped and the United States knew this. Each bomb that was dropped instantly killed 70,000 to 100,000
people. When the bomb was dropped it was dropped to about 500 feet in the air when it exploded creating a blast that had a
radius of 1.5 miles high and about 70 miles wide. The United States dropped 2 Atomic Bombs, one on Hiroshima and the other
bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. When the first bomb was dropped Japan did not want to surrender at first but looking ahead and
seeing what would happen if they did not they were forced to surrender once the second bomb was dropped.
I had also learned from this project that part of the fact that we did this war was to show Germany that we are not an
inferior country so that they would still pay the debts that they owed us from World War I. It would show Germany that we
are a fierce country that is willing to do what it takes to get what we want done.
Overall I liked this project a lot and I feel that it is very essential to what we are learning in class. I would recommend
this project to anyone, because I feel I have learned a lot.
200 Word Essay
In my opinion, I think that yes we should have bombed Japan in World War II. It was the right thing to
do because they had attacked Pearl Harbor and were threatening the United States for further attacks on their country, so
we had to bomb them to prevent further loss of life because if we would have went with ground forces we would have lost more
troops.
We also had to bomb Japan to set an example to Germany that we were not an inferior country, and that they would still
be obligated to pay their debt that they have owed the United States from World War I.
It was good way to test the strength of the atomic bomb for further research and wars, so this way it would show how the
atomic bomb would affect a country’s environment.
Dropping the Atomic Bomb got us involved in World War II, which is a good thing because it gave the citizens of the United
States jobs so that they can receive an income for their families. This brought us out of the Great Depression because the
mobilization of the United States created jobs for it’s citizens which boosted the economy of the country.
So therefore I believe that bombing Japan was a good idea and a good way to benefit the United States because of the previous
statements listed in this essay.
